Breakfast

Abundant, fresh, local and seasonal describe the breakfast offerings at The Speckled Hen Inn. Each day we start your day off right with a three-course breakfast. You choose your breakfast time. Eat early to get ahead of the crowds at The Dane County Farmer’s Market, or sleep in and enjoy a leisurely breakfast at 10:00. Breakfast is served in the dining room under the big brass candelabra with real burning candles or in the cozy library in view of the bird feeders on the back balcony. In the warmer seasons, for a slight additional charge, your breakfast can be packed in Japanese bento boxes and delivered to the gazebo in the garden for a very private and romantic start for your day.

Breakfasts begin with your choice of chilled juices accompanied by steaming hot beverages. Guests choose from locally roasted Costa Rican coffee, a collection of fine teas, or creamy dark hot chocolate.

The first course served is usually fresh seasonal fruit accompanied by homemade pastry or breads. The scones at the Speckled Hen Inn get rave reviews. Breakfast entrees feature fresh eggs from the Inn’s own speckled hens, Wisconsin cheeses, and fresh veggies and herbs, often from the Inn’s own gardens. Entrees are often accompanied by homemade sausage, pepper glazed bacon, or a vegetarian hash.

We take pride in our ability to accommodate guests with food allergies and dietary restrictions. Please just let us know what your special needs are when you make your reservations.

Extra Bites and Goodies

Complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and soft drinks are available 24 hours a day. The guest pantry is also stocked with pretzels, rice crackers, and Wisconsin microwave popcorn.

In the winter, the “makings” for s’mores are on a tray near the wood-burning stove.
