Celebrating the holiday can cause much stress and frustration, especially if you wait until the last minute. Starting early and preparing for the occasion thoughtfully will make a successful, romantic and lasting celebration of your love. One of the keys to a successful evening is dinner and considering Madison is a “foodie” hot spot, there are endless restaurants with varying genres and price ranges to choose from.

We have two favorites that we would recommend for special, romantic evenings. Our first choice would be Harvest located on Capitol Square.   It is a quaint, intimate environment that makes you feel welcome from the minute you walk in and they ask to take your coat.   The service is impeccable, and the food is amazing.   Because we love the farm to table concept, we were initially drawn to Harvest for it’s healthy and creative menu and its use of local ingredients whenever possible.  They also provide casual yet elegant surroundings with ambient lighting that just makes you feel good.  I ordered the Beets Five ways, and the North Atlantic Wild King Salmon with Fennel Soubise, Radish, and Pickled Citrus and couldn’t have been happier.

Another great pick is Sardine, off Willy St. on Lake Monona.   Sardine also tries to use many locally grown foods to keep their dishes fresh – a detail I must always mention.  Because of this, the menu is somewhat limited, but what they offer is always delicious and we have only heard positive comments from our guests as well.  If you make a reservation be sure to request a lake view.  While the menu is very good, pay attention to the specials because the chef’s creativity is allowed to flow freely and it is obvious they love what they do.  As in most restaurants in Madison, the atmosphere is casual and light while still providing great food and service, and the price point is a little easier on the pocketbook.

While inspirations of romance are dancing through your mind, booking a room at the Speckled Hen Inn Bed and Breakfast in Madison is the perfect choice for an all-inclusive romantic evening.  There are several options for romance packages making it easier for you to focus on the important things, your sweetheart.  And if an overnight getaway just doesn’t fit your schedule right now, there is always the option for a Speckled Hen Inn Gift Certificate because any night with your sweetheart could be special.
