A Hallmark Christmas at The Speckled Hen Inn
You’ve imagined it – but this year you, too, can experience a Hallmark Christmas at The Speckled Hen Inn. From the moment you step out of your car and take in the beauty of the property, you’ll feel the stress of everyday life melt away. You’ll smell the wonderful aroma of wood burning in the fireplace in the Inn. You’ll immediately notice the white fence surrounding the snow covered pasture that hosts sheep, horse, and llama who thoroughly enjoy the colder weather and can usually be found relaxing on the straw bed just outside the barn or grazing on hay. Towering pines surround the barn and pasture and beckon the adventure seeker to explore Christmas Tree Lane and snow covered paths adjacent to the winding creek where you may see deer, coyote, mink, wild turkeys, hawks or owls. There is a pair of snowy owls that return to their nest each year that can be seen at dawn and dusk as they soar through the large back pasture with their 6 foot wing span that we refer to as their air strip. The sound of crunching snow beneath your feet as you meander through the woods is a gentle distraction from life’s cares, even if only for a time, but it makes you appreciate the beauty, the glory, of winter.
As you enter the Inn, you are immediately warmed by the wood burning stove. You’re welcomed into the Gathering Room with genuine hospitality among an array of twinkling lights, a warm fire, beautiful holiday decor, and a glass of Cedar Creek Spiced Wine to get you into the holiday spirit. The room entices you to sit and stay awhile.
There is a puzzle table, games, books, and even snow shoes that are there for you when you decide to take that adventure out on the trails. The galley kitchen is stocked with coffees, teas, hot chocolate, a variety of wines, and even popcorn to top off the evening by the fire. A microwave, coffee machine, small refrigerator, dishes and utensils are available in case you decide to order in or enjoy your leftovers later.
As you take in the festive surroundings, you’ll be dazzled by the magical display of a Christmas Village unlike any you’ve ever seen. Layered city streets, a winter playground of animated skiers, skaters, tobogganers, and even a gondola make up part of the display. Along with the city is a countryside with a Christmas tree farm, a river in the woods with wild habitat, and a lake with a lighthouse and boats. There is a train that runs throughout carrying passengers to their destinations, and it wouldn’t be complete without a farm including the sheep, llama, horse, speckled hens and Tom, the farmer, who lovingly cares for them. Each year the village is a little different, with new additions here and there, but always magical and a central attraction for visitors during the holidays.
Once you settle into your room, perhaps you want to go to dinner, or just order in. The Madison Lakes Suite and the Heywood Hardy Suite are set up for guests to enjoy in-room dining, and the Token Creek and Badger Den Rooms are conveniently located just off the Gathering Room and Galley Kitchen and Bar, which has a counter, table, and barstools to enjoy your food. Or, maybe you want to eat while you watch a movie on the big screen in the theatre room, where dozens of DVDs and favorite Christmas movies are available at your fingertips. There’s also a TV in the Gathering Room and each guest room with streaming available on YouTube TV, Prime, or your own favorite account from home. And don’t forget to leave time to enjoy that jetted tub and fireplace in your own suite. As you tuck in at bedtime, you’ll lavish your time in the oh so soft sheets and comfortable beds that will give you a dreamy night’s sleep.
In the morning, you’ll awake to a hearty farm to table breakfast that you’ve selected from a menu of always available items as well as daily specials. Selections include egg dishes from our speckled hens, pure meat sausages, fresh fruits, granola, oatmeal, breads, and home baked goods from our garden. And yes, we do accommodate special diets!
