Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throwing Festival

Welcome to Wisconsin – where there’s always beer, cheese, football and fun – including a state-wide celebrated event called Cow Chip Throwing!  Yes, you heard right and folks here take this pretty seriously.  This year will be the 43nd annual event and it’s being held on FRIDAY/SATURDAY, SEPT. 1-2 in Prairie du Sac, just 30 minutes from Madison.  You probably already read our blog on other things to do in Prairie du Sac, but for this event, but on these two days, the town balloons from about 4,500 to 40,000 people!     There’s always lots of food, an arts and crafts fair, a 5K Run/Walk & 10K Run, and free entertainment – the music kind as well as the competition, of course.   The current state record is 248 feet!
